Awww, Jonas. I didn't like the way his integration into the team was handled, but I liked him and felt like the character and Corin Nemec both got a raw deal when Michael Shanks came back. Not that I don't like Daniel, Shanks or their return, because I'm always happy to see Daniel, but I wish things had been different with Jonas.

Agreed, especially regarding MS' return. I stopped watching SG-1 after Jonas left so I don't know what happened in the later seasons, but I remember wishing that Jonas had stayed instead of Daniel...

Agreed on Shanks return. Daniel is even one of my favorites but I felt a bit resentful of him with the way he returned.

I don't know why they had to just get rid of Jonas that way, they could have expanded his characterization and given him a different role on the team (I mean the 4 person team dynamic kind of got busted up anyway once Vala came on.)

This! Especially since it turned out that the person Jonas had the best chemistry with...was Daniel.

It was busted up long before Vala. It started when they added Bra'tac as a recurring character, not to mention all the guest stars and SG-Extras of the week or all the splitting of the party they did. The idea of a 4-person team was more honored in the breach than observance.

I feel the Daniel that came back was never quite as good as the Daniel we had before his temporary death. Post Death Daniel was an asshole who kept being bitchy to people and seemed burnt out and bitter. I know they made that change because that was what Shanks wanted to play and he was basically top billing at that point with RDA announcing his gradual retirement.

I feel like the shift in Daniel's character made a degree of sense given everything he'd gone through. But it's true that he was really never the same, and I get not liking Daniel 2.0 as much as the original recipe.

And it always annoyed me that he got top billing, as much as I liked him. Somehow it was even less of an ensemble show than it was when RDA was there. And Carter ranked Daniel and if anything she should have been front runner or at least equal to him.

LOL, it's not because he was male, it's because Shanks was a shark negotiator who used the edge he had from all the fans that wanted him back to bully his way into it. Amanda Tapping didn't threaten anybody with anything.

I have a headcanon that the reason Daniel was so different after returning was because of the events in Lifeboat - namely, I like to think that remnants of the other personalities in his head (most specifically Martice) remained after their removal, permanently altering Daniel's persona subtly.

Tears of a clown, bro. Jonas' reaction to misery was to put on his best smile and roll up his sleeves and dammit I loved that. A master of conceal don't feel and sharp as a lil alien tack. Bless u Jonas and your love for the weather channel.

Some people are actually just nice, or at least make an effort to keep a tight lid on their assholeish tendencies. Jonas was one of those people, and that he almost let a city burn in nuclear fire when he did let his darker side take over for a few seconds and needed a genuine galactic hero to sacrifice his own life in the most horrifying way possible to save everyone, probably helped reinforce that positive life attitude. This idea that no one can be good or sweet is just an excuse used by people who are too lazy to not be assholes themselves.

Ah, Jonas. You got screwed by the showrunners though. Yeah, it took a season to warm up to him properly, but they had just worked it out when Shanks wanted back and they kicked Jonas out the door.

Oh go away. I loved Jonas! I was really disappointed when he didn't come back, even if for a few episodes after Action Jackson returned. (Now talk about how I could go from loving Daniel as my favorite character to one I pretty much despised....)

And even that tragedy of a show SGU couldn't be bothered to even mention him when they did an episode about his planet.

I loved Jonas. I didn't see him as a Pollyanna so much as someone who is idealistic and who feels like he has a lot to prove and a lot to make up for. It was really refreshing seeing someone who's grateful for life and friendship and willing to be so positive despite so many negative things in his life.

I just don't like Daniel. From the S1, so it isn't connected to the actor blackmailing showrunners. Something about his looks doesn't sit right.
Jonas was good, imo. It was a bit like SGA with two aliens in the team.
