1. NO. YOU ARE DOING MILO WRONG.

You need to drink it in summer with really cold milk, and you put it in the glass and then pour the milk.

2. Nobody I know actually like Chicos. Bleurgh.

3. I don't even know what problem they had with Smiths chips. Sour Cream and Onion thins are the superior flavour though.

4. Pizza shapes do taste a little like cardboard, but they're more filling than chips? That's why I like them. BBQ flavour are better though.

5. I've never seen you people eat vegemite like a normal person. Stop what you are doing. Just stop. PUT DOWN THE SPOON.

You only need a thin smear. The thinnest of smears on a piece of toast or a cracker. My favourite way to eat it is on toast with cheese over the top and melt the cheese under the grill. My mum used to put the cheese in strips and call it tiger toast.

6. I see you holding those tim tams, asshole. Yet I do not hear you complaining about them.
This is because they are delicious and there is no way to eat them wrong.

OMG TIM TAMS ARE AMAZING!! Are you the Tim Tam slam anon? My officemate showed me that the last time I was in Melbourne - also amazing!

And yes, I winced watching vegemite being eaten in that fashion...

I'm not! I'm glad someone helped you out though.

I don't understand why people open the jar, smell it, and still think a spoon is the right utensil.

:/

Officemate also showed me how your coins have "aging" images of the Queen on them!! MIND BLOWN.

I think it's because spreads in non-vegemite/marmite countries tend to be slathered on, so people don't even think about it?

I think there have been four portraits minted. Our notes are also plastic to protect them from water damage and different colours so you can tell them apart in your wallet. An American friend of mine has this complex system of folding his notes differently so he can tell them apart at first glance.

That is possible! I don't really think about it because I grew up with it.

Nutella is best applied thick though.

I do like the colorful notes, though I always forget which color is which... :/ Folding them differently is a good idea, though (as long as I don't forget which fold I meant for which denomination).

Agreed on Nutella!

I'd love to see Australians eat American food! They have a British one but no Australians. :C http://youtu.be/s4UEifGF8DU

I have tried several of your chocolate products.

Hershey's kisses taste like dirt to me. Sorry?

Reese's peanut butter cups are also pretty gross. The chocolate is waxy and sugary, and the peanut butter (IS THAT ACTUALLY MEANT TO BE PEANUT BUTTER?) is simultaneously greasy and dry and gritty. I mean, I still ate the whole thing without dying.

I did like Hershey's cookie and cream though.

I am confused by your jam, jelly, jello, preserve situation. Please advise.

(anon from above)

I don't think it's really meant to emulate peanut butter so much as a pb-tasting sugar/fat paste? So I can see where that would be off-putting if you were expecting actual peanut butter (I love Reese's cups, but I grew up on them haha).

Jello here is a gelatin jiggly food (I think it is what you call jelly?). Jelly here doesn't have the fruit in it, just juice for flavoring (so it's more easily spreadable), and jam/preserves are pretty similar (fruit pieces mixed in) but I think jam is more "homogenous" (like if you mixed pulp in) while preserves tend to have bigger chunks of fruit (maybe)?

Re: Rant Thread:

Ohhh. I thought that might just be your actual peanut butter, and I felt sorry for you all.

Yes, jelly is the jiggly one here.

When I was younger I thought peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (ewwww) were made with actual jelly. I didn't understand how you could spread jelly on bread and I thought you were all crazy people.

Don't worry, we have good peanut butter!

Heh, I can see where that would seem odd! I actually hadn't had a pb&j sandwich until a few years ago; it's doable (like vegemite for me, haha), but not my favorite... Nutella all the way! Or cookie butter, mmm. (like peanut butter, not...butter butter)

(Anonymous) 2014-09-25 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
America loves its peanuts. Or, tolerates, because they're nitrogen-binding and kids will eat them.

We have many kinds of peanut butter. Some are a bit too sweet.

I like Hershey's Dark Chocolate but that is it. I love Resse's Cups and they don't really taste like actual peanut butter. I can't stand cookies and cream chocolate. D: White chocolate makes me nauseous.

Here is a pretty good description:
Jelly is a clear fruit spread made from cooked fruit juice and sugar, and possibly pectin, which helps it gel and thicken. After the initial cooking, jelly is strained through a muslin stockinette or “jelly bag” to remove any solids.

Jam is a thick spread made from fruit juice, chopped, crushed, or puréed fruit, and sugar. Pectin may also be added to help it gel, but jams are usually looser than jellies. Jam typically contains a bit of fruit pulp, so it’s not entirely transparent.

Preserves are another thick fruit spread made from fruit cooked with sugar, but in this case, large pieces of the fruit, or the whole fruit (as in the case of berries), are suspended in a firm jelly or less-gelled syrupy base. Unlike jams and jellies, preserves are chunky in texture.

In my expeience, jelly is cheap. Jam is a bit more expensive. Preserves are things you buy at Farmer's markets or make at home.

Jello is gelatin! So not something you spread on bread. It is what the Jurassic Park girl is eating!

Oh, jello is spreadable, sort of. I went to community college with a guy who ate pb and jello sandwiches.

Gross! Seems like it would be too wet.

Okay, I'm with you on all the others, but you really don't like Reese's? That's like...like....I think I need the smelling salts.

Question!

Does Vegemite taste similar to Marmite? Because I only know Marmite and I always got the impression that it's basically a spreadable bouillon cube thing?

As someone who has eaten and disliked both ... no, no it doesn't.
