There's a local one near me, but I've never enjoyed going. Too expensive, nothing I really want to do, and it just makes me feel awkward.

I guess I'm not "fannish" enough or something, idk.

yeah, that's the reason why i don't go either. i have somewhat geeky interests but when i see the kind of fans that go to cons i feel like too much of a casual to fit in.

I feel like I'm fannish in a different way than people who go to cons. I obsess and stuff, but I do so quietly.

I go back to the one in the city where I grew up every year I can, and I've been to a few other small-to-medium local ones in the places I've lived. They've varied, but I've always had fun. They are all of the fan-run convention type, usually without any very famous guests (except sometimes the author GOHs are pretty famous), I'm all about the panels and the costumes. I meet up with family at the one in my hometown, but most of the others I've attended by myself and didn't know anyone there, but I still enjoyed them a lot.
