I feel protective against all the people praising the new Lara as a massive move forward in female representation compared to the old Lara because the new one wears pants and has smaller boobies.

I don't feel as strongly as you do, but I agree with everything here, particularly the quoted line. It's a great example of everything a female character has accomplished being dismissed because of how she looks. Were the giant boobs fanboy bait? Of course. Does that mean classic Lara Croft was worthless beyond the boobs? Fuck no.

Yeah, I know I'm a bit...excessive about it, but the tomb raider games where one of the main template of my gaming life.
Some people started with Pong, some with pac man or Mario. For me, my life long hobby was kindled running through caverns shooting bats and endangered species. It depresses me deeply that killing a TRex is a less significant accomplishment than a few feet more fabric on her legsa.

Don't get me wrong, the new game is brilliant, but did it really need to be a tomb raider game?
