What is this? It looks like some kind of relationship gone dysfunctional.

Given that it's Green Arrow booting (with his hands) Roy Harper out of the sidekick club because of his drug addiction, yeah. it's like that.

Not really any the wiser (except that they're not family, as I first guessed) but thanks.

It looks like really old art. Not a current story, I take it.

It's more of an adoptive family thing, so there's still that factor of a guardian completely abandoning someone they took in.

It's from the early 70s, so it was somewhat topical for addressing drug abuse among youth, and the effect on families. And it didn't "fix" everything and have Roy recover by the end, nor even repair that relationship with Oliver.

I'm so glad they changed him completely for New 52. He's much, much more likeable.

Given the age of the comic, not really likely. I'm not sure there was even a Teen Titans comic running at the time, though don't quote me on that.

Coming late to this party, but there was indeed a Teen Titans comic running at the time (1971, to be exact.) It was run by a different creative team than Green Lantern/Green Arrow and it did not address the situation pictured here at all. This first run of the Titans comic lasted till 1973. When it was revived a few years later, DC tried to explain the discrepancy by saying that all the Titans stories up to 1973 had actually happened before this 1971 story, which was why it never got mentioned there. Or, in in-universe terms, the original Titans had already broken up, and Roy didn't have any contact with them, when he became an addict.
