e-book reader recs?

(Anonymous) 2014-09-26 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm think of getting one. Does anyone use one or have recommendations?

I have the Kindle app on my smartphone - I prefer that more than the Fire, it's a little bulky. Some of the thinner ones seem less unwieldy.

I have a kindle paperwhite. It's okay, but I prefer regular books.

I have a Kindle Fire (the small one) and I enjoy it. My mother has the larger Kindle Fire and she LOVES it (now that she knows how to use it).

why did you go with that instead of the kindle? For the color?

I got it for Christmas. But honestly, I use it 85% of the time to browse the internet when I am in bed.

My Kobo Arc is great. Except I'm not a fan of the default library so I got the Moon Reader app and it's now 1000000% perfection.

I love my nook simple touch.

If you have an android phone, or tablet, I love Moon Reader+. It doesn't mangle paragraph breaks, looks nice and clean, doesn't have trouble displaying special characters, and reads enough formats even with the free version.

If you want it to read like a book and not a computer screen, definitely go with something e-ink. I have a nook simple touch and it does the job well. I know kindle has an equivalent.

I have a Kobo Touch. Simple and easy to use, and tactile too, in the comfortable-to-hold sense.

I have a Kobo Touch too! It's function as a tablet isn't that great, but I just love it as an e-reader.

I have the Kindle Paperwhite, and I adore it. I love the adjustable backlight, so I can read in bed without having a separate light. Also, the very low glare screen is equally great for reading outside on a sunny day. And really good battery life. I love it.

Ditto. Getting the Paperwhite got me back into serious reading again after a long hiatus, it's almost everything I love about regular books in one convenient little device.

I like Nook Simple Touch, sadly they are discontinued for the new one that comes with a built in light.

Standard kindle. Satisfied with it (mostly) but do not have a basis for comparison.

what does nat satisfy you about it?

Some navigation, and awkwardness searching/sorting titles.

For me the decision between the regular kindle vs the paperwhite (or any comparable products) pretty much is coming down to whether it's easier to turn pages with a touchscreen or a button. I find myself getting annoyed with the touchscreen on my phone a LOT ("No, damnit, I just want to scroll down, not copy and paste!")

My mom has the basic Kindle (buttons to navigate), and I have the Paperwhite (touch to navigate). Preference may just come down to what you're used to, but I like tapping the screen to turn the page. I can actually read my Kindle while on the treadmill, because I can just tap the screen. If I had to reach the buttons, I'd probably have to be holding it.

I had a a Hip Street e-reader that played movies and I liked that quite a bit because the battery lasted way longer than my laptop, but it broke and I got a Kindle Keyboard that you can only read on.... but it also has free 3G internet. It's slow and shitty but you can use it anywhere in an emergency. I like it.

kobo has expandable memory slot and everything else doesn't. the old nooks used to have expandable memory, but they removed it for the newer versions. if you want the ability to add more memory to your ereader via sd cards, get whatever version of the kobo reader line that strikes your fancy.
