When I was young I used to be insecure about how nerdy I was so I would often be shy about things, it took a long time to not give a fuck (plus it's harder to hide online these days with everyone and their mother being everywhere.)

And there are also times I hide from certain fandoms specifically. I hide that I liked anime for a long time mainly because I got to a point where I didn't have much time for it but every time I said I liked it I would get fanboys who would NOT STOP TALKING about shit I never heard of. And it wasn't just that it was stuff I was not watching, it was that they'd talk for 3 hours about it even though I had expressed no interest in hearing about it.

Some fans in reality are a little much and you have to be careful.
