OP - Clarification

I wanted to clarify that I'm not talking about people who don't admit to being in fandom at all. I mean people who will say, in the middle of a room with lots of people and at a normal volume "I love writing Star Trek fanfic." But as soon as you say "oh, I've written Star Trek fanfic" they get shifty.

What I can see it being is the worry that people will ask to see your fics, especially if you've written a lot of smut, and it's someone you might not want to know that.
