Well if they admit to the same hobby then I'll basically be like "oh really, me to" and then probe for specifics like what they play/read/watch and ask about key things or what they like about it and then determine how far I go into my knowledge of the thing.

I don't think anyone got what I'm saying. Here's the basic scenario I'm thinking of.

Mary: Not doing much, just writing a Loki fanfic.

Me: Oh, you're in the Avengers fandom? So am I!

Mary: Oh, I'm not in the Avengers fandom! *Changes subject really fast*

Oh, then yeah, no, I've never been in that situation, since the only fandom thing I've really ever been in was here.
