I prefer fics that show the couple getting together, then working at being a couple. Established relationship fic doesn't usually do much for me because I'm always wondering, "But how did you get together?!". I can read get together fic that ends after the actual getting together, but as long as the writing keeps being good and the characters keep being interesting I'm fine to continue.

I can be down with this. And I'll confess this happened to me as a writer for something original. The idea started out with them married and about to have a baby and then I sat back and went "Wait a minute, how did you even GET to this point?" And started from there. (But I'm a romantic comedy action writer soooo... gratuitous explosions have to be part of the story along with laughs or I'm not writing it.)
