Tumblr is good for gifs and I love re-blogging pretty pictures and there are some interesting comment posts, but it's pretty crap for discussion and discussion is why I got into fandom. Can't say I agree about the improved quality of fic either. There are some good writers, but most are still pretty mediocre to bad and there doesn't seem to be as much good long fic that isn't crossovers. At least not in my fandom.

+1 to all of this.

My fandom didn't die when it moved to Tumblr, but it's a shadow of what it used to be. Endless gifsets, a shrunken catalog of (mostly mediocre) shortfics, and no meta whatsoever.
