(yeah, I get that. What I've kind of tried to do is that in between my "real" fics that I work on, I post stupid fluffy drabbles and stuff, in the hopes that they'll catch people's attention and then they'll stay for the serious fics.
I also feel like fics are getting less creative, but idk maybe it's just me and my corner of fandom, or maybe I've just gotten picky. It's definitely a vicious cycle, because the fluffy stuff gets all the positive reinforcement. But as an author... it's easy to get dragged in. You see people squeeing over cutesy AUs enough and then you find yourself wanting to get in on the fun, because that's what the fandom is doing... and next thing you know you're writing fluffy headcanon posts.)
