Re: things that seem to work for everybody that just don't work for you?

Caffeine. If anything it makes me more tired.

This is not a joke, and and I'm encouraging you to self-diagnose, but might you have AD(H)D?

It doesn't make me tired, but I'm mostly immune to it.

I seem to be immune to it as well. Oddly enough I'll often take a sip of Gatorade before bed because I find it refreshing and I go to sleep a little easier.

People think I'm nuts, but I can drink two energy drinks and then go to bed happily.

Wait what? I am not alone in not getting a reaction from caffeine?

Nah, it's more common than you think.

Huh, when I've mentioned it to people, they either think I'm lying or they have never heard of it.

I know one other person than me r/l.

I've basically cut caffeine drastically because I have high blood pressure and it's pointless. People do think it's weird I don't drink coffee though.

I drink cappuccino a couple of times a week, because I like the taste and if I am cold it is a nice way to warm up, and I drink energy drinks because I enjoy the taste, also both things can help on my migraines.

But only effect other than the migraine soothing is that when I drank almost half a litre of Red Bull in 10 mins without having eaten anything in ages I started shaking.

Oh, that sucks! But health is more important. I get told (mostly jokingly) by the adults in my family that I'm not a "real" adult because I don't like coffee.

I'm with you. A soda does not 'pep' me up or wake me up (gross), it's just a soda, which just makes me feel full and/or queasy from the sugar. I don't drink coffee or tea. But, yeah - caffeine is just nothing special to me.

Is soda supposed to pep you up? Huh, well add that to the list of stuff I have no reaction to, actually anything sugary or caffeinated that should in theory make you more awake or high energy don't work for me, if I am hungry and eat some chocolate I will just be less hungry and nothing else.

I get a reaction from coffee, but not from tea.
Thing is, for whatever reason the caffeine in coffee makes me kind of nauseous, and nausea can actually really wake you up, so maybe it's a combination of that and psychology.

I sometimes drink tea or hot chocolate before bed because it soothes me, but I think it is more the action of doing it, rather than anything else. Same if I have to get up early I might make a cup of tea and drink it and feel more awake, but it is more because I am a bit slow to wake up and the ritual of getting ready for the day is nice.

Maybe? I have no idea? it seems like a logical conclution tho!

Yeah, I also drink tea or hot chocolate to wake up sometimes (or go to sleep), but it's more for the flavor and enjoying something hot, not for any real physical reaction.

Yeah, and during the winter it is something I do so I will warm up a bit (and as such also wake up) before leaving the house as I refuse to light a fire bin the mornings and my electrical heating is usually pretty low during the night.

Luckily, where I live we don't need heating during the night, and while the mornings are cool, they're definitely not enough to warrant turning on the heat.
Besides, I hate sleeping with heat on, it dries me up and I suffer. The only exception to that was Korea, where they have under-the-floor heating and it's the absolute best most lovely thing ever *_* I was so happy with that. You know how nice it is to wake up and put your socked feet on a warm floor??

Oh I kinda hate you right now, winter is coming here, and it sucks!

Oh under-the-floor heating is awesome especially in the bathroom!

Well, only in my area. Slightly north and they do use heating, but a lot of buildings have gas heating they put on for a few hours in the evening, they don't keep it on all night (except for like uni dorms which were heated to the point of ridiculous).

Be strong, I guess, haha! Lots of hot drinks to get you through. And I bet it snows by you. We never get snow :(

Jumping on board - I don't either. Never have. /shrug

Do you by any chance have ADD/ADHD? It's a known symptom. Of course it's entirely possible that you don't, but if you do, that's probably what it is.

Oooh, me too. Energy drinks, coffee, tea, anything with caffeine: nothing. The most that happens is when I drink a lot of strong coffee, I get jittery and my hands start shaking. But I never get more awake.

It doesn't make me tired but it doesn't keep me awake either. I honestly wonder how it feels to be affected by it-- does it just makes you not tired anymore? Do you have more energy? Like, could you be the groggiest person at the moment and the next have energy to work or something?

Well, when I drink it, a lot depends on how much caffeine is in it and how tired I am. Example - I got about an hour of sleep before going to work a craft show yesterday, so I was drinking mountain dew all day. I did feel more awake when I was drinking it as opposed to after I laid off (about mid afternoon, sipped at it during the day before then). So it woke me up, basically, and kept me going rather than being too tired to function.
On the other hand, I once let a friend talk me into chugging an energy drink while I was wide awake, and the only effect was that I couldn't. shut. up. For about an hour. Thought crossed my mind, it came out my mouth. Thought my roommate might strangle our friend for that since he left before it kicked in.
