Those types of people really do suck - I've run into a strain or two in my day - but you really are being the bigger, more mature person by not giving into your urges. That's not something that can be said for a lot of fandom, even mods. But people like the one your describing tend to burn their own bridges eventually, when people wise up to the ever constant need for attention and drama - and you might even be surprised to find that a few of the members of your comm already can't stand this person, that's happened to me as well - you just keep taking the high road. It'll work itself out.
