I have a weirdly strong desire for a Superman movie set in the 1940s or 1930s, with art deco Metropolis and villains with 1930s-y sci-fi-looking technology, and awesome Max Fleischer cartoons-esque Lois Lane and old fashioned newspaper reporting.

I don't know why this appeals to me so much -- probably because being a period piece will mean they can make a Superman movie that is bright and cheery the way Superman should be, but without looking corny or goofy if there's a vintage aesthetic.

So basically, a Superman movie made like The Rocketeer?

I'd like that too, honestly.

I've never seen The Rocketeer but now I'm very interested...

Well, it's set in the 30s, so it has that whole side of things, and it's generally very optimistic, romantic, almost wistful but also adventurous.

I'd recommend it! It's a lot of fun. The director also did the first Captain America movie, although I don't think it's as good.

OMG YES.

vintage Superman would be the actual best. I'd love that 10000x more than a gritty, modern reboot

I would love this to pieces.

I know it's not a comic, and I apologize for that, but have you ever read It's Superman!? It's a novel about Superman set in the 1930's. Admittedy, it's been a while since I read it, so it might not hit all your points, but when I think of Superman in the '30's, that's what I think about. :)
