Interpersonal tension that doesn't center around who's banging who, or romance. When lined up against literally any other direction it could go, romance will always take a backseat.

Graphic torture without losing track of the plot. Some nice aftermath would be good as well. For that matter, I'd love to see some realistic effects of trauma that don't rely on stereotypes and don't break character. This is something I want in movies, books, TV shows, and fic, but have rarely found.

As for shipping and relationships, I wish there were more unhappy relationships, romantic or otherwise, that don't end with resolution or one partner seeing the light.
