yeah, you're probably right. If you say anything about the ship, it'll be seen as bashing.
fwiw part of the reason I left the fandom is actually because I didn't get along with a lot of the Brotherhood fic. Not saying the 2003-era anime fic didn't have its terrible moments (remember zoofic? predated a/b/o by a bit...) and OOC sagas, but eventually I just got turned off by it all.
One fic too many about Al screwing Ling's harem, I guess.

I haven't read much Royai (was very solidly in the Hei/Ed part of the fandom), but I believe you.

(Hahaha, now I feel like a jerk for commenting on this before I saw you mentioned me /o/)

I don't really write this ship very much as a pairing but I'm glad I made a good impression on OP :)

ETA: For what it's worth, there are a lot of takes on this pairing that I like and I have some stuff bookmarked but I wasn't active in the fandom when it was really active so I tend to have read some one-shots by writers who are mostly active in other fandoms and don't have a list of particular writers I favor.

Neither Royai nor Roy/Ed being my ship of choice, so I don't go looking to read either. There used to be some good Royai stories, though, but a lot of the writers aren't involved in the fandom much any more. For example: https://www.fanfiction.net/u/83218/D-M-Evans.
