Given the nature of his first contact with the Doctor, I think Danny was reacting rather well, actually. If you meet someone under adverse circumstances and discover in one fell swoop that they're a) alien, b) planting strange devices in a school, c) luring killer robots to a school, d) creating temporal explosions in a school, e) being the reason someone you love is living a double life, f) being the reason someone you love is apparently constantly in danger, and g) reacting to you with constant disdain, dismissal and belittlement ... I mean, under the circumstances, a couple of sniping fits with the gentleman in question and a request for your loved one to stop lying to you and actually explain things is pretty mild. Especially when followed up with saving their lives, understanding and explaining said gentleman's behaviour towards you to the poor woman caught between you, and granting your support to her if not necessarily to him, including offering her an out and support if her other life becomes too dangerous for her.

I'm not overly impressed with the storyline in general at the minute, and these aren't my favourite set of Who characters, but honestly, in terms of Danny vs the Doctor, I'd say Danny was the one more sinned against than sinning last episode.

+6.

I've hit the point where I really just hate them all and keep trying to convince myself to stop watching, but Danny is the least offensive of the three.

Almost half the episode consisted of the Doctor hypocritically insulting Danny repeatedly (and repetitively, bringing very little to the conversation beyond "PE"). I find this to be just plain strange, because while previous incarnations of NuWho were vocally gun-phobic, none of them went so far as to treat current members of the military with contempt, much less veterans in a new career who seem to have a fair bit of ambivalence about their prior lives.

Most likely, this will be explained at some future plot line as the Doctor's projected self loathing, or worse, just another quirk to make him the least personable of the revival incarnations. (Assuming this is not just a repeat of the Doctor's early dislike of Rory.)

But Danny's argument with the Doctor said nothing about The Doctor that hasn't been said in previous episodes regarding his tendency to turn his companions into weapons and moral proxies.

+1 I feel like this "the Doctor has reasons for being a dick that will be revealed and justifiable" thing will get old very fast, so I look forward to the show getting to the point about it. And yeah, going from "guns are a bad way to solve things" to "all soldiers are just automatically bad regardless of anything" is weird.

I dropped out of the show during Ten's second season and came back for Capaldi. I feel like I have to mention this in case I've tripped over a trope that's been used to death in my absence...
