Because we haven't had one in a while and there's nothing people want to talk about more.

3 days from now, my horticulture class might get a contract to design and construct a memorial garden at an ex air base. Coupled with a demolition job on Tuesday and my own voluntary position tomorrow, should be fun!

I just got done with a massive project that had consumed my life for months and now and I don't know quite what to do with myself now.

I don't have much of a social life now because I moved to my city for this job several years ago, but I've been either so busy or traveling out of town that I haven't gotten a chance to get to know anyone. I feel awkward trying to move forward making friends because it's embarassing to have lived here this long and not really know anyone.

I've been working 50-60 hours a week since August. I think this is pretty much like my first day where I have almost no obligations whatsoever. We've got about a month left of turbo time before it goes back down to normal, and I'm just like holy shit. I've gotten so used to work/sleep, work/sleep that I have no fucking idea what I'm going to do once mid-November hits.

So yeah. I feel you.

I say look for meet up groups in your area. Since you mentioned you're in a city, I'm betting there's a bunch around. I've been invited to a couple; the people are usually pretty nice. Singles meet ups are good too for like general hangout-ness if you don't have any particular interest in mind. And despite "singles" being in the name, they're usually pretty low key.

Yeah, I need to lok into groups. I had an easy time making friends back when I was in school and it's taken me a while to come to terms with the fact that I'm going to need to put in some effort and be more pro-active now that I'm a Grown Up (tm) in the Real Workd (tm). Thanks!

I got my biggest project ever a while ago. The catering division reported $500K of food and equipment transferred from other divisions. Admin recorded $600K of food and equipment transferred to catering. Admin had me look over the receipts to determine what the hell happened. (I wasn't able to find it all, but I found out that months worth of catering receipts had mysteriously gone missing. Someone's getting slapped on the wrist for this.)

Oh yea.

Man, wading through receipts... Necessary as it is, it's tedious as hell.

My job consists of listing the items the company I work for sells (on eBay and our personal site) and packaging/shipping. As we get closer to the holidays, the busier we get. The closer we get to Christmas the more unreasonable people get.

blah it's so hard to balance school and work atm and I just feel exhausted with everything. So looking forward to November/December when I first take three weeks off work due to exams (that most likely won't be too stressful, luckily) and then Christmas holiday until about mid-January.

We use UPS Ground in my work to ship our stuff out. So I know what it looks like when the package is lost. Yet Kohl's doesn't understand despite my e-mails back and forth! No wait, see the ETA is for tomorrow. Oh but I keep telling you the ETA keeps changing, it's plainly lost, you're the shipper, you need to contact UPS to initiate the investigation! Noo… I have to do that.

So I finally did that today and UPS understood my position plainly. So I'll just go into Kohl's on Monday (forget responding back to their e-mail which is no help what-so-ever) to work on getting a replacement.

Sheesh. It's just a tank top for the gym that is lost! I'm not blaming UPS, it happens. Just Kohl's for the non-understanding plain logic.

Sorry, you meant my work? Sorry but I had to rant about that! And technically I use UPS for my work. I could go into how I feel about their investigation procedures… Always calling, won't e-mail back responses, and they always ask the same questions "has it been returned" and "has a re-order been sent". At least FedEx doesn't require the constant calls. File a claim and be done with it.

Erm, / Rant (sorry!)

I envy your FedEx experience. When I ordered a tie for my husband for our wedding, I dealt with at least three phone calls to track the stupid thing down. There'd been an error on the shipping address, which would have caused it to arrive at our condo when we'd be on our way to Florida for the wedding. Our flight was in the afternoon, so I barely got to the FedEx warehouse in time to retrieve the damn thing.

Only working half a day next week, which sucks, I was hoping to have more assignments.

My work life has changed so drastically it's kind of insane. Just a few months ago I had a boss who I think may have had mental issues and the bullying and controlling was getting worse every day; but even on her good days, while I liked her, she never really got me. She was fired for her lying/cheating/bullying tendencies, and my boss now is a total bookish/nerdish type like I am and half the time I ask for her approval on something she's like "that's fine, if you think it works, it works for me!" (Which could be bad, but she's smart about it and will tell me when it's not, rather than tell me it's fine then yell at me like Crazypants used to.)

I have no idea what happened, and keep waiting for my boss to turn out being psycho after all.

I wash dishes at a fine dining joint. Sometimes they let me do prep stuff, too, if they need an extra pair of hands to do simple things like making dumplings. The chef likes the way I make them, apparently I make them really pretty and with just the right amount of filling.

I like working there, the people are really nice. I could use a raise, but other than that, no complaints XP

work is...work. Pretty rhythmic. Still looking for other jobs, though I don't particularly hate this one. It does kinda suck that I got called into work at the last minute today due to poor planning on either the part of my GM or another cashier (maybe both?) because I didn't get any sleep last night (literally - I stayed up all night with the intention of trying to reset my sleep cycle, and with no notion that I'd have to be going to work today) and it was hectic for the first couple hours and I didn't get the things done this afternoon that I was really looking forward to doing. :/

I kinda want to get promoted, but at the same time I don't want to feel like I'm on track to be in foodservice for the rest of my life. It's actually gotten to the point where my biggest motivation for wanting to be promoted - moreso even than the money (because the money is actually not *that* great, and I'd do better just getting a new job, plus I'd have to put in a lot of time) - is that I am dissatisfied with the system on which the store runs and I want to make it better...kind of like how I always wish I could fix a bad traffic light or a poorly designed website. It just is wrong. Doesn't sit right with me. But I'm not in a position right now to do anything about it without sounding like an asshole. Why does it matter to me that a fast food restaurant I probably (hopefully) won't be working in much longer runs the "right" way? I don't know, it just does, because things should run well.

On a very happy note, all the co-workers I disliked are now gone - two transferred permanently to different stores (in opposite directions) and one quit because it was conflicting too much with school. :3

Work is crazy busy recently. I've been on this big project with a lot of eyes on it, which is pretty stressful, since I'm more junior than anyone else working on it, but I was specifically picked for it. That's winding down a little, but my other big project that I own is ramping up. Plus, given some personnel shifts in the next few months, I'm likely to pick up more work.

All of this = 50+ hour weeks. I know for some people that's nothing, but it's been stressful for me. (Plus I tend towards the socially anxious, so all the meetings with higher ups I don't know very well have been making me really paranoid.)

BUT in spite of all of that, I'm so lucky to have the job I have-- I really love most of the work and the people. (And I might be looking at another job within the company within the next two months...)

I just got a new job at my university! As of this week I am now a research assistant to the Assistant Chair of the English Department. Its kind of dull and I don't care for the authors the research is on, but it pays pretty well and I can work from home, which is great for a student who functions weird hours like me.
