I spank my sons, but I would never dream of hitting my daughter. The boys are a lot more out of control and I just couldn't be a parent to boys without having something to reign them in.

Hm. Assuming you're not trolling (which are, aren't you? Let's be honest) that's actually my experience. I got the slipper (on the arse), the bamboo sticks (on the arse), the belt (on the arse), I got locked in the shed, locked outside, locked under the stairs, etc.

My sister got very little in the way of behavioural correction. Maybe because she was younger, maybe because she was a girl and my mam didn't want to cross any lines.

Long story short, I grew up to be a normal healthy adult. My sister grew up to be an abject shit. So, yeah, while I'm against doing anything to harm kids, I suppose it might have some benefit?

Oh, good. So it's not just me over re-acting. Since reaching adulthood and reflecting on things I've felt that was some dodgy shit, but you know, what's done is done. can't be dredging it up all these years later.

To be fair, I was an absolute shite when I was little and I don't think I would have found a better way to deal with child me.

I have no idea what you were like as a kid, but I'd find that kind of punishment alarming in any situation.
