You need to look this shit up beforehand if you want to look like this is a thing you really think and have given some thought to, son.

Though I bet you if that wish came true after a month or so they'd want to switch back real quick.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-14 01:20 am (UTC)(link)On the other hand, I'm like, why? (complete with side eye)
To be fair, I've had my share of identity issues, but it was never I wish I wasn't "x", it was more, I wish I was "Y"--that is to say in addition to my current cultural heritage, i would wish I could also have "Y" heritage, thus not negating my "x"ness. Although that was something I felt because I didn't feel connected with my own culture. I've come to terms with my culture and myself and still learning more.
I figure if I'm being cynical, I can be "oh, please, you just want to be "exotic" or "know the *struggle*" or whatever will make you feel more special. However, I figure people just don't feel satisfied or connected to their own culture/history, so in the end I just feel for the person and encourage them to embrace their history.

Re: Possibly triggery stuff - adding the question in the second comment
Honestly, I'll think they're a naive weirdo who probably has silly reasons for wanting to be EXOTIC. But remember that I would love to be a white guy, albeit a handsome and tall one, for stupider reasons (ie: being a hot white guy).

(Anonymous) 2014-10-14 09:14 am (UTC)(link)I on the other hand once thought my life would be a little easier if I weren't asian and if I were instead white. Then I realized I didn't care and I remember that I liked being the race that I am.
