no srsly I thought about this question and went into vapor lock because I read constantly, voraciously, and swiftly throughout my childhood. The library only allowed you to check out 10 books a week on a kids' card and it was never enough. my parents grounded me by making me stop reading for a day
I READ IN THE SHOWER
but special shout-out to the Redwall series and to a whooooole lotta Star Trek books.
Re: Based on #9
The max at mine was you could have 25 books out at a time. My dad used to take me to the library every weekend to bring back my books/get new ones and every time I would get a, "Oh are you really going to read all those?" from the librarian and it irked me to no end. I think it was because they were actual novels and not 'children's books'. :/
"No, I'm just taking these 25 books because I really don't anyone else to read them for a week. That's all. Not because I want to read them."
Re: Based on #9
My parents definitely did the thing of stopping me from reading as a punishment. But only for, like, really serious infractions. That was the big deal punishment for me. No more recreational reading for a week.
Also, I'm pretty sure my dad actually wrote a note to the school librarian to let me check out more books than their limit once (the public library was more forgiving than yours, thank God). Definitely devoured everything in Redwall and every single Star Trek novel I could get my hands on. Ahhhhhh childhood memories.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-14 07:55 am (UTC)(link)well technically I guess it was 10 at a time, but we were pretty far away from the library so my parents would take us there once a week.
Fortunately, my parents are big readers too so there were usually backup books in the house when the library books ran out! I had a stable of annual books that I could reread once or twice a year, lol
