Hmmm, I tend to like and relate more to male characters in things because there are certain character archetypes that I really like/relate to and those usually fall under 'male characters' (though when I find a female character who does, woooooo!)

Are you sure this isn't your problem? I mean, there really isn't one way or another to write men and women since people are vastly different, and people are going to relate to different characters differently. If a lot of women in your fandoms are liking these characters, the problem might not be with how they (or who they) are written (by).

Yeah, me too. I'm a pretty masculine woman, so I tend to identify with male characters more often, seeing as there really aren't a lot of masculine women in media. I do love me some masculine female characters when they do appear, though.

This is me too. For example, I really like reckless hot-heads, which tends to be a male character type. So a lot of my favorites are male, but I also absolutely adore Starbuck, and will defend Korra to the death.
