Again, didn't bring up the spoon. I'm talking more about the issue of being a twin and hating twincest as a result, which kind of implies the OP is taking it a bit too personally.

it's hard not to take twincest personally as a twin, atleast to me. I have a tendancy to get excited seeing another set of twins in a series, and I will automatically compare their relationship to me and my sister. So seeing people take that unique relationship as just another "romance" is really bothersome.

I guess it's harder when you think people are intentionally misunderstanding the nature of your relationship, and I can respect that. But I also like to think that case by case applies, as in, just because this author wrote this pair of twins in this kind of relationship doesn't mean that he/she thinks this is true for all twins. Like, each story stands alone by itself, and the characters in that story belong to that specific situation.

I'm Asian. I guess I could say, it's the difference between being offended at portrayal of Asian stereotypes in the media and being offended at the portrayal of an Asian in a negative light in a certain film or book. The first case is gross generalization, which is offensive, but in the latter, I don't have any reason to feel that the creator thinks less of Asians as a whole. Similarly, in the Anon's example, finding a picture of huge spiders and being grossed out doesn't mean you should feel, "Damn, this person knows I/people hate spiders and purposely put this here to make me sick, I hate them." (Unless, of course, that is the case.)

Ah, yeah that makes sense. I can see the appeal of it individually, with all the taboo type themes and whatnot. People who ship twincest all the time at every chance are the ones that really bug me. (no offense to them, i guess?) Most other circumstances I tend to be less "eck" about.
I guess really the same sort of thing can apply when you see two characters you love as friends, but find people shipping them all over. To a stronger degree, but yeah. Logic and gut feelings are so hard to balance \(-.-;)>
