Re: 28.
What's the difference between an excellent drabble and an equally excellent longfic. ?
That's actually easy to answer. It's the length since you stated that the quality of content is the same. But in that person's mind. . .it doesn't matter because it's a drabble. I get the impression from that secret that because they have ZERO respect for a drabble and a drabbler writer, then a bad fic would be held higher than an excellent drabble.
And THAT is why I stated the "obvious" that I would take a great drabble over a bad fic.
The argument over which is better: an excellent long piece of fiction or an excellent drabble can go either way. One person could say the drabble is better since someone is able to express so much in so few words. Someone else could then say that the longer piece of fiction is better since the author would have to keep momentum going for a longer period of time.
My obvious point? One should judge on content, not length.
Re: 28.
Also, if we're talking about a long piece of fiction as a novel specifically in the context of art rather than pure enjoyment, then there is no contest. A good novel takes far more effort than a good drabble (that is not to say a drabble doesn't require substantial effort itself), no questions asked.
Again, I don't mean the enjoyment one gets from either. That's all personal opinion.
