Established relationship fic that doesn't feel like gushy honeymoon fic, doesn't use tired romance cliches for plot (like insecurity and jealousy), and doesn't have the characters holding hands, cooing over each other, and having sex every other second of the fic. Especially when it's out of character. Established relationship fic where the characters actually still feel like the characters, and not some generic sappy couple. It's like these writers are basing their fictional relationship off of what they've seen in chick flicks, instead of thinking what a relationship between the two characters would actually be like. (This is the worst when it written between two older men.)
I have read good established relationship fic. But it is very few and far inbetween.
