Romance fic where the main problem is NOT because of some stupid misunderstanding that could immediately be cleared up if character A and Character B would just talk to each other instead of spending several chapters angsting over an issue that doesn't actually exist.

Ugh, this.

One of my favorite fics ever has the couple realize they both like each about 1/3 of the way through but Character A was hired to be Character B's bodyguard (I know, I know, I fucking love that cliche though) and they actually discuss their situation like rational adults who can't be together for an extraneous reason. It was pretty refreshing.

Sounds boring. Pining where both characters think it's unrequited is where it's at.

How the fuck isn't that boring? It's just a bunch of whining by frightened children who are unable to use their words.

Nah. It's just good, over and over again, in many different fics.

OP - I can do pining, but like I said, it was nice to see something different this one time. :)
