(Anonymous) 2014-10-28 12:20 am (UTC)(link)Not to mention the fact that it's perfectly possible to edit posts you reblog, so anyone with malicious intent could erase any fixes anyway. At least with LJ/DW there's ONE source post and if you change it, anyone who visits that post will see the change.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-28 08:54 am (UTC)(link)In each case, the reblogging is from the best of intentions, but damnit people, do some five second research before hitting reblog.
I can see why social justice warriors can easily be created in the unthinking crucible that is tumblr. Indignant posts complaining about sexist/racist behaviour can easily gather hundreds of thousands of notes, even though a little basic googling will show that the information presented is wrong.
There's no way to really comment on a mistaken post, either. I tried leaving comments under a few misguided ones but a) nobody sees my comments anyway b) everyone just reblogs the version with misinformation because it's more fun to be outraged c) I was just adding to the notes, making it look like even more people agreed.
Tumblr is a modern day version of those old chain letters, only worse.
