Are we talking in-universe, because if you are then you are asking why the person with the power to alter reality doesn't get hit by the crap that hits everyone else in that reality? The answer is probably in the question. If it is out of universe, then she's a hot chick in a bathing suit, nerds love that.

Only thing I really didn't like about the original was the lack of Pip. The first time Seras drinks blood is such an incredibly important, tragic, and badass moment for her character in the manga and in the Ultimate anime, whereas in the anime is just like "meh, here's some blood soup, sip away". Also the villain was, indeed, crap. But aside from those things, it was pretty cool, I need to watch it again. And also finish Ultimate.

Hellsing is easily the best variation off vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural monsters I've ever seen, they were fucking terrifying and grotesque, but easy to like, relate to, and cheer on at the same time. It found a great balance between humanizing monsters and keeping them monstrous. Whereas it seems like they're either a joke or mindless animals or depressing analogues in everything else. I really want to see more of that, too.

I find this secret intriguing and cool.

I also think it's interesting how much the media has affected the things women aspire to--purposefully. During WW2, women were portrayed as strong, needing to work and support the troops and be powerful, even to the point of having muscles! Images were shown of women working hard, both drawings and actual pictures like of farm work.

After the war, there was a specific push to get women out of the work force, into the kitchen, so the economy wouldn't suffer with too many men looking for work. Now, most of these women wanted to go home and have kids, and that's awesome. But the changed ways of showing women--idealizing tiny waists and fluffiness and not doing anything outside the kitchen, that has been problematic for a number of women who feel marginalized in the decades since.

(There were also high numbers of suicides by women who felt trapped in housewifely roles and not good enough, etc.)

It's a little scary when you think about how media has influenced what women feel is ideal and how we try to measure up. It's particularly scary to me when I see how young girls feel like they have to grow up sexy.

I think greater emphasis on doing things is going to be awesome for girls and boys, too. I hope we will see more of it. I am encouraged when I see some of it in children's programming, for instance. It's physically and emotionally healthy to do things, whatever things you need or want to do, including kitchen stuff. Or having tiny waists. But having choices and idealizing different ways of being a woman would be amazing.

Different strokes for different folks. I'm enjoying the fuck out of this show. The characters are great, I love the character designs, and the music is fantastic. It is a fun show.

Yeah, Meelo is annoying. But I get the feeling his heart is in the real place. Like heaven help you if you dared, DARED, hurt his sisters' feelings. I can imagine all of hell fire raining down on you. Like he's very protective of the people he loves.
