Welp, basically just throwing my voice into the choir now, but nonetheless: really great points, anon.

I would add that the fact that expressions of gender have been marketed demonstrates really well that gender isn't defined solely by biology. It also demonstrates that the notion of what's "traditional" is pretty bullshit, and also doesn't go as far back as some people want to think it does.

Indeed! On a related tangent, there was a time when women were all considered laviscuous creatures of sin and lust and men were morally upright and had to protect their honor. Basically, women were thought to want sex more than men. What an age, right?? Then the Victoria era changed all that.
