Meelo, Ikki, and Jinora were sent to find Korra by themselves. The entire trip Meelo kept saying that he was in charge (Jinora was) and that his sisters were useless and he doesn't listen to anyone and how he is the only competent one on the 'team'. At one point Ikki's directions didn't pay off and he said "well what do you expect from Ikki" and earlier he upset her so much she ran off.

Realistic or not, that child is a brat and just cruel.

To add: Ikki was so upset to the point of running off because Meelo went and dumped two weeks supplies worth of food in the river, so they could "hunt for their food" (despite being vegetarians).
