But it feels a little incomplete to me--there are so many things that I never get around to complaining about. So let's kick off the limits! Complain about everything that bugs you in your fandom! Did you know that Jess's parents talked to Swani-Writes, noted Korrasami fic writer, after Jess came out, about gayness so they could understand their daughter? This is the sort of thing that generally happens!

Shipping and YOU!

So, while reading through the comments to the secret about exclusive het and slash shippers yesterday, something occurred to me: I think that I view the concept of shipping differently from a lot of other people.

I experience shipping almost as a kind of infatuation. It's completely involuntary and it involves intense interest. I can appreciate, relate to, and see the appeal of a wide range of pairings, but if I don't feel that intense interest, I don't view myself as shipping them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like, for a lot of people here, shipping includes appreciation for and the ability to relate to and see the appeal of a pairing, even without that infatuation-type feeling. Am I off base?

Thoughts? What's shipping to you? Do you ship the way I do, or does that sound a little out there?

MOVIE TASTE JUDGEMENT TIME

Partially because I want to know what else FS likes and doesn't like to watch! Give a list of 3-5 of movies that you really enjoyed watching and 3-5 movies that you found excruciating to watch.

Then go around and comment on what other people's movies are! Ask for recs, question their taste, ask why they felt that way, make weird deductions about what LIKING A CERTAIN THING MUST MEAN, you get the idea.

But that's kind of the WHOLE ISSUE I and most people have with the GamerGaters. It is being overwhelmingly used as an excuse to attack women and whine about how "SJWs" have ruined gaming.

Online, as a vocal queer WoC gamer, I have been faced with harassment, death threats, rape threats, insults, hate, been accused of awful things. None of this was by people I was gaming with. Rather, it came from social justice activists who use bullying and harassment on people they disagree with--aka, the kind of social justice activists that are considered "SJW"s. I don't think they have ruined gaming, but I do think they have badly damaged the online social justice sphere.

Oh, sorry, was I whining? Queer WoC being bullied so badly they no longer feel safe blogging about issues they face--man, what a whiny pissbaby I am.


The Gamergate movement, as whole, does not give a shit about women or POC. That's kind of the whole point.

If you have any evidence for that broad and sweeping generalization, I'd love to hear it.

They're not all issuing death/rape threats, but the sentiment of the movement very much supports it.

Funny, I'd say the sentiments the online SJ movement uses supports issuing death/rape threats pretty well too, based on how many have used SJ principles to justify doing such things. But I guess you'll be arguing that people shouldn't be feminists because of that?
