I feel kind of petty for posting this but Zoe's skinniness also bothers me. I get that it's a huge pressure in Hollywood but she's still REALLY thin. And maybe she's healthy at that size (she's a former dancer and it's none of my business anyway), but I was really disappointed in her for publishing her weight on the cover of Allure. Especially since she's underweight for her height.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-31 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
She's likely not underweight right now given that she's pregnant.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-31 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Except women who work to be thin while not pregnant often don't eat enough during their first pregnancy, so there's a pretty good chance she's underweight for a pregnant woman of her height as well.

I'm sorry but are you a doctor? Have you received information from her doctor about her current weight while pregnant? Have you actually seen a single recent image of Zoe pregnant? At the end the day I don't care if people like her as an actress or not. I don't care if people dislike her as reboot Uhura or not, but I am honestly appalled that without any proof you have decided that A) Zoe cant possibly be naturally thin and must starve herself to be that petite, and that B) she is clearly such a selfish image obsessed person that she is currently starving herself while pregnant and putting her unborn children in danger because she clearly cares more about her weight than she does for their well being. I know this isn't nice to say, but FUCK YOU! It is incredibly disgusting that you would make an accusation about some lady you don't know possibly not eating enough while pregnant. Also, most people in my husband's family have similar body types as Zoe, and guess what, almost everyone in his family is naturally very thin and they are all healthy, active individuals who are not starving themselves. Not everyone is built the same and some people are naturally small boned while others have broader bone structure. Your ignorance when it comes to your lack of knowledge on this, is astounding, but no more astounding than the fact that you apparently know for a fact that it's "a pretty good chance" some woman you don't know is purposely underweight while pregnant.

Don't know if you've heard (for the record I have no children) but you don't have to "eat for two" if you're preggers these days. Doctors say you don't have to stuff yourself with food and blow up like a balloon. It's not like it was back in the 1930's.

I'm inclined to agree. There's also the factor that, as a straight guy, I like Nichelle Nichols' body a LOT more. I'm sure Ms. Saldana's a great person, but I wasn't impressed with her either as a performer or as eye candy. (I know, I'm a sexist pig, but given how 90% of this community talks about male actors, I'm content to await the casting of the first stone.)

(Anonymous) 2014-11-10 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't care if you liked her performance or not, but the rest of your comment is problematic as hell. However I'm going to give you benefit of the doubt and assume by your comment here that you are unaware that body image issues effect women far more than they effect men due to the sexist patriarchal culture we live in. I'm going to assume that you are unaware that the way a woman looks has historically been cause to treat her badly, blame her for things like rape, assault and harassment in ways that men almost never have to deal with. I'm going to assume that you are unaware that the number of young girls receiving breast implants and other body modifications is significantly disproportionately high in comparison to the number of young men doing the same, because young girls are conditioned practically from birth to believe that their sole worth and value as human beings comes down to what they look like and whether or not some man(such as yourself) is turned on by their appearance. I'm also going to assume that you are unaware that the number of female actors cast specifically for their looks or to be as you call it "eye candy" with very little other in-depth importance to the story they are part of, as well as the pressures placed on women in Hollywood to be as perfect and as appealing to men as possible, is much higher than that of male actors put in the same position. But you're right, your dissatisfaction with Ms. Saldana's body type and how much she doesn't turn you on, should totally factor into her being worthy of a role or not, and is totally equal to some women in the community discussing the looks of the male actors.

these stupid comments about women and their weight bother me. What's wrong about her allowing allure to state her weight? Are you saying that she should feel ashamed of her weight?

Zoe Saldana and Nichelle Nichols have a completely different body type. Saldana is NOT underweight, she's born like that and she looks healthy to me.

I was going to stay out of this thread, but I just cant stay quiet when I see crap like this. The very fact that you are blaming an actress for a magazines decision to post her weight in an image obsessed culture that affects all women regardless of size, just goes to show how much of an idiot you truly are. It is not on an actress(any actress) that Hollywood and the media likes to pick apart their bodies and question their weight and size and whether they are curvy enough or thin enough or their boobs are big enough etc. Furthermore, acting like Zoe can't possibly be healthy with her naturally thin frame without any proof is pretty disgusting and the fact that you have decided that if she is in fact too thin due to Hollywood pressure, that it's all on HER rather than the sexist misogynistic culture we live in that pressures ALL women to hate themselves and their bodies and change who they are to fit into impossible norms, is really depressing. But you know what, I guess for people like you at the end of the day a woman's sole worth as an actress and human being comes down to whether or not someone else thinks she looks good and should be happy with her body.
