And this is why 50 shades of grey is a better book than your friends' shitty fics. Emotional response > whatever crap you think of.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-01 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
...you're genuinely suggesting 50 Shades isn't bland, lowest-common-denominator tripe?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-01 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
It gets more people excited than OP's friend's fics.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-01 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
That doesn't mean it's not bland. That means it suckers a lot of middle aged women into marketing hype.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-01 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
When will this community learn that people, women of all ages included, read what they actually like to read.

Isn't the fact that millions of people like it the opposite of bland and tripe?

Millions of people like white bread too.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-01 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
McDonalds has served over six million burgers. You're missing out on the fact that people consume both reading material and food for a very wide variety of reasons and "flavor" isn't the sole reason.

No, it's crap. It's popular crap, but it's still crap. Contrived situations, characters with no depth, risible dialogue, unsexy sex.

I'm truly sorry that you have no taste, but at least you are in numerous company. I imagine you mistake that for being right. Don't kid yourself.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-01 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I love it when butthurt anons try to post their opinions as fact, especially when everything they say can be just be blown away with a "I don't agree". Enjoy being wrong.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-01 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"I love it when butthurt anons try to post their opinions as fact"

Which is exactly what you're doing. Enjoy being a butthurt hypocrite.

Your actually calling somebody's fics shitty while comparing a piece of crap that is basically an AU fanfic of another piece of crap (Twilight) with the serial numbers filed off? Okay.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Wow you sure are dedicated your hate.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-01 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Seems like a fair point to me. There was some well calculated edgyness to it while it was mostly shit unexpected things did occasionally happen. Even if you don't like it you kind of want to talk about it.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'm baffled at this whole thread, because I think 50 Shades it's bad, but not bland.

I also think bland is worse than bad, because something can be so bad that's amusing or at least have some interesting idea in the middle of all that crap or it's just memorable thanks to how bad it is.
Something bad causes some type of response, even if it's a negative one.

But something bland? It's just boring, there's nothing interesting between all the blandness, but it's not possible to call it bad because it isn't but it isn't good either.
It's just... there. It's easy to forget and it's impossible to say anything bad or good about it.

I agree with this, tbh. The Asylum Sherlock Holmes>>>>>>the Tom Baker version, always.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Bad is highly subjective, but bland seems to be universal.

It's happened before. A few times this year, even. Usually they stick to FSOG secrets. Kinda odd to see them just out of the blue here.
