As far as shows go, Heroes. I think the writer's strike did a lot of damage, but I also think they wrote themselves well over their heads, and were also too wont to cater to Sylar fangirls.

Characters... well, Tonks from Harry Potter is one. You have a character who can morph into different faces, and introduce her just as a war's broken out? Awesome! Except we... hardly ever see her do anything. Hell, they could've even had her impersonate Bellatrix in the last book when they broke into Gringotts. Why not? That would've even given her a reason to be at Hogwarts. Also, her relationship with Remus was awful, and I say this as someone who shipped Remus/Tonks VERY hardcore. Actually, maybe that's why it bothered me so much in DH.

I've never really thought about that before, but you're right that Tonks' morphing abilities could have been used in a lot of interesting and tactically advantageous ways in the books...now I'm kind of bummed out

Oh gosh, Heroes. Yes. So much yes.

On Heroes: Sylar in general. I was really bummed he wasn't actually eating peoples' brains and flatworm-learning their abilities, because that would've been an awesomely weird villain angle, and I thought it was stupid as shit when they tried to redeem him. I know the writer's strike ruined a lot of their momentum, but damn it, most of Season 1 was great.

What? He WASN'T actually eating their brains? Granted, I only saw season 1 and maybe part of 2, but I always thought that the brain-eating was happening. I mean, didn't he open up their skulls and everything?

Yeah... his ability was to gain immediate awareness of how something worked by looking at its parts, and so he looked at their brains to figure out how their powers were wired, and somehow he applied that to himself. There was this whole clock metaphor; "Sylar" was a brand of watch he used to repair, he could always fix them after just glancing at them. It was dumb.
