So many TV shows start with an interesting premise in the first season and then proceed to piss away all the interest and potential in the second and beyond, I'm almost grateful* Firefly never had the chance to follow down that path.

I am grateful, especially since I found out what they had planned for the next bit. Judging by what the writers said (in various places on the internets), the series ended just in time.
