Agreed. The show lost a large amount of its appeal to me when the heroes went from homeless underdogs to part of the establishment.

Big old organisation like the MoL behind them, paying their way... I can't relate to that at all. The outlaws-on-the-road feeling was largely what drew me in.

I guess the bunker is cool, but... not for this show, not for these characters.

But I generally hate the "lighter and funnier" atmosphere of the last few seasons. I just clashes so badly with the dark themes. And instead of making everyday things feel epic, they somehow managed to make epic things feel banal.

I think it's partly because we have different showrunners and writers at work now, and their general outlook on life is a very different one from the original ones. For example, Cas supposedly being happy about being human is incredibly grating. Have the writers even /watched/ season 5? Being human isn't all that great a thing to be. But the new writers seem rather optimistic about humanity in general. Sorry, but I don't share that optimism and it doesn't suit this show, imo.

I'm only intermittently following and I suppose this could have changed in the last few episodes, but... aren't the MoL pretty much extinct? Have we actually gotten confirmation that they've gotten access to cash? And when was Cas happy about being human?

Yes, the Men of Letters are all dead, but they left the library behind which is what I suspect the other commentator is referring too.

As for cash, in ep 6 Dean will try to collect an inheritance, which could be an indicator that they're not very rich right now.

Although, if they're strapped for cash they could always sell those old cars they have in their garage

Well, the MoL seems extinct, but their property seems very much there, with working electricity and everything. And while the boys have always had more money than strictly plausible, there were always at least pro-forma nods to credit card fraud and stealing.

And Cas seems rather pro-human lately, especially when contrasted with Hannah. Sure, his human experience is fairly blah, but it's far from as epically shitty as it should have been.
