Yeah, agreed.
Also I'd ditch the cat ears thing, because I think it's stupid and just for the cute nekomimi.
But the word battles and sacrifice/fighter system was pretty cool, and pretty hardcore. It could have been stunning.

The thing that bugged me most about the ears is that, when you lose them, do they just shrivel up, or do they fall off, or what?

....it's kind of gross no matter how you twist it. I mean maybe just like some people keep baby teeth, some of them keep virgin ears or whatever
I bet you'd have fetishists who collect them. Imagine the guy who preserves them in formaldehyde and keeps them in jars.
