Loveless. I thought the concept of word-spell battles was interesting if ill-defined, and the idea of pairs where the one conducting battle isn't one taking damage (as opposed to the one ordering/controlling the battle but not physically taking part) is something I've seen elsewhere but fascinated me in context.

It's a silly thing to still think about, since it's not like the concept is terribly different to something like Pokémon, but I've always thought Loveless could have been amazing if it wasn't made by someone who just wanted their boy love.

I'd kill for Loveless to be done properly with copious amounts of world building.

Agreed. I thought Loveless sounded really good, until I heard about its creepy shota angle. Then I noped the hell away from it and have never looked back.

Yeah, agreed.
Also I'd ditch the cat ears thing, because I think it's stupid and just for the cute nekomimi.
But the word battles and sacrifice/fighter system was pretty cool, and pretty hardcore. It could have been stunning.

The thing that bugged me most about the ears is that, when you lose them, do they just shrivel up, or do they fall off, or what?

....it's kind of gross no matter how you twist it. I mean maybe just like some people keep baby teeth, some of them keep virgin ears or whatever
I bet you'd have fetishists who collect them. Imagine the guy who preserves them in formaldehyde and keeps them in jars.

... that's terrifying to think about, and I'm almost disappointed this was never acknowledged in the series.

I agree. Sadly, I feel like the thing most people take away from Loveless is the virginity cat ears.

That and the shotacon aspect.
