Not sure if it counts, but I've just started listening to Panic! At The Disco and Fall Out Boy and that sort of thing in the past year. I guess my tastes have changed, because I never cared for this sort of thing a few years ago.

On a more on topic thing, I started watching Supernatural at the beginning of the year. Got through the first season and a half, wasn't that thrilled.

I had a similar reaction to SPN. When it first came out, I tried the first few episodes and then gave up. I didn't think they were bad but nothing really grabbed my attention. I like SPN now but I can totally see where you're coming from.

That's pretty much it. I liked it, but it didn't really hold my interest. From what I've heard, it gets better (or at least, it gets more compelling than just monster-of-the-week), but I'm not sure if it gets good enough to hold out for.

If you have the patience or time, I would personally recommend trying to get through season 4. Season 4 was my favorite and really starts the larger mythology. The first episode of the 4th season was what got me to try SPN again.

Or, you could try to get through season 5, since that was when the show was originally going to end. Personally, I have a rather low bar for being entertained so I'm not going to guarantee enjoyment, but I think if you've tried season 4 and/or 5, you'll have a general sense if going on is worth it.
