I'm so fucking sick of this term (and I don't even like Katniss that much!). It has become such a lazy excuse instead of actual analysis of female characters. And why is always the female characters that get called "Mary Sue"? Yes, male characters sometimes are called that, but they don't get scrutinised at the same level. And then you end with bland, boring female characters because young authors get scared of actually giving their characters personality.

As I always say: I you use the term "Mary Sue" to talk about a female character and can't back it up with actual facts, well... I think you're a god-damn moron and won't talk to you any more.

Yeah, no, that's a huge thing, the fact that male characters who are almost identical to the criticized female characters tend not to get called Stus. Like, you have to be really, really over-the-top to where there's absolutely no challenge in the story at all to be called a Gary Stu (and sometimes even then you won't be called a Gary Stu), but all you have to do is either have any impact on the world or have things sometimes go well for you to be called a Mary Sue.

Oh, I agree with you. Male characters can basically be flawless little heroes and not one would bat an eye. Honestly, I'm kind of bored by male characters at this point

Case in point:

James Fucking Bond
