Drier skin can lead to more zits because your skin is producing more oils to compensate for the dryness.

Have you started any medications during this time frame? Are you washing you face more often or bathing or swimming more? (Those things dry out your skin.) Are you using moisturizer?

I take blood pressure meds, but I've started taking those maybe half a year before the skin issue started. I'm not washing/bathing more. I use moisturizer daily, but that's been part of my routine since college, so I don't think that's the cause.

EDIT: and the more you know, I thought zits were caused by oily skin.
