Merlin only really got going in the second series. The first isn't bad but a bit bland and kiddie.

Series two and three were my favourites. It was almost a sitcom in a castle, plus glowing eyes and everyone speaking Welsh when they did magic. And the amazing Anthony Head!

Of course, the second series was when Sir Leon arrived, and I'm a big fan, so I may be biased.

It got darker towards the end, which was okay, but not what I'm into.

Best episode ever: when the King fell in love with a troll.

Oh, thank God I'm not the only one who thought that.

I think it was a common enough opinion.

Merlin never developed its full potential except for some astoundingly well crafted episodes in series two, but then it was a family show about really quite dark subject matters. It was a hard balance to put off, and even without being perfect, was interesting and great fun to watch.
