I can't really blame her, myself. I always see a lot of people who write original stuff talk about how they have all this worldbuilding and character backstory that they've thought up but couldn't fit in the actual story because it would clutter everything up. So if that story gets popular like HP did, it seems like it would be natural to want to take that opportunity to write out all the stuff you had to keep in your head before and share it with people who loved your original canon.
