Our personality is built around our experiences. If you have a lot of experience with a thing, it makes sense you'd start associating the thing with yourself -"I drink from this water bottle, not any other, each day." It makes perfect sense. And a lot of people do it.

I do it with clothes pretty often. I also do it to my guitar, which I barely play because I don't want to go through the bleeding-fingertips stage again, but I also don't want to get rid of it.
