Ino and Sai? (figures that she would get the Sasuke replacement lol) I quit reading a loooong time ago, so does that pairing make sense? Did they have significant interactions before they were revealed as canon or do we just assume that they just became closer over the course of the timeskip?

They didn't. Same with Chouji and Karui.
