Re: Naruto-It's finally over!

So glad this disappointing series is over. I'm a little surprised by the bad, flat ending. Or maybe I'm not so surprised if the last 40 chapters were anything to go by this has been a long time in coming. Basically nothing was resolved. Kishi just plopped a happy ending on his story.

He was genuinely good at writing tragedy though, I'll give him that. I hope more people will give One Piece a chance since it is such a strong manga, storywise.

Aside from that, it was kind of funny attempting to read the last two chapters online because everyone and their grandmother was reading it.

What all bothered you about the ending?

You could tell he didn't want to put any effort into it. The only important resolution he made was between Naruto and Sasuke. After everyone else was released that was it. They went on with their lives, made babies with random people, and lived happily ever after. Female characterization was flat, which isn't surprising at all considering how much Kishimoto ignores his female creations. The only thing I liked was the Straw Hat jolly roger painted onto naruto's Hokage forehead.

I used to love the show back when the chunin arc was going and sometimes I watch it just for fun and nostalgia. I'm not really a huge fan of the series anymore and I wasn't emotionally invested in any major ship so I just stopped caring about it long ago. I read it because I wanted to know how it ended.

Orochimaru is still out there, Sasuke was let off for everything he did, everyone magically forgave him, it was pretty much Babies Ever After for EVERYONE...

Yup agreed. Sasuke getting a free ride doesn't surprise me, but it still pisses me off a lot considering a lot of the bs that happened is because of his douchebaggery.

I'd read One Piece if it weren't so damn long. Seriously, the length and the fact that it is nowhere close to ending is what puts me off it.

It's worth giving it a shot. You feel motivated to follow it because it is so good. But not everyone will like it, but honestly I'm glad I got past my own preconceived notions and gave it a try. It was so worth it.

regrettably, I'm the same as anon up above. I've heard great things about OP, but I'm just not willing to invest so much of my life in it... if/when it ends, I'll take a look at how many chapters we're talking about and decide, I think.

The thing is if you decide you don't like it, you can stop reading any time after. And it doesn't take up too much time to follow. People can just read at their own pace. Naruto wasn't exactly short. :P And there are plenty of series that are even longer than One Piece that are still ongoing. When there are people who have read Captain America and Batman comics for decades, I don't really see how this is such a huge investment? I've stopped following it for months at a time because of rl events taking up time away from all of my hobbies. When I have time I go back to it and catch up when I want to.

yeah, but if I do like it then I'm stuck, and I am a bit of a completionist... I know a lot of people have no problem following stuff for years and years, but for me there are relatively few series that I can stick with for that long. I just don't want to get invested if I can't invest all the way, you know? I prefer stuff that I know I can read all/most of within the free time frame that I have.
I actually tend to have a preference for completed works, anyway.
