I can see why people don't like them (and saying people are bigoted or homophobic for not shipping them is 110% bullshit).

And I agree that they borrow too much from the older and far superior version.

However, I think that borrowing is one of the reasons the Kirk/Spock relationship is the only half-decent thing in the reboots.

I actually only like Spock when he's interacting with Kirk and, contrary to the OP, I think they make each other better people. Plus, Spock caring about Kirk is one of the only times I read genuine emotion from him.

Granted, I only consider this to be true for Star Trek Into Darkness. Not Star Trek 2009.

Well, to say that the only time Spock shows emotion is with Kirk is a stretch especially if you consider that both big times are extremely OOC for him - trying to kill him and then cry for someone he doesn't care about that much when he wouldn't cry for his mom..yeah, I get the criticism
Personally, I find the subtle emotion he showed with Amanda, Uhura and even Sarek (or Pike when he died) no less important than crying and screaming not to mention more fitting with what I know about vulcans.

How was he "subtle" with Amanda? He FREAKED THE FUCK OUT. With Sarek…yeah…I understand that because of his daddy issues and not wanting the man to disapprove. Or even with Pike since he didn't know him that well (since he never served with him, having gone directly to Kirk).

But Spock's emotions have always jumped to the forefront when someone he loves is in danger.

Remember Spock freaking out when Jim confronted the Horta in TOS? Or his reaction when he learned Jim was alive in Amok Time?

I think reboot Spock is pretty consistent with that -- he strongest emotional reactions are when terrible things happen to those he loves, like Amanda and Kirk.

Da

Lol, you think he loves Kirk (a stranger he didn't even like) and not his girlfriend. OK
He was Ooc in thedeath scene. You'd think they insulted his character if he had that reaction for Uhura, Amanda or Sarek but because it's Kirk you try to justify. The ony reason they had that scene in the last movie is the writers thinking we'd love it b/c if the original, and them not being original enough to give them a more realistic arc in context of a different reality where they don't know each other yet.

Err…no.

I pointed out that he also freaked out about Amanda. And why for Sarek he wouldn't show emotion -- his dad is Vulcan and Spock has always desperately wanted his father's love and approval. Even in TOS this was the case.

Moreover, I provided two examples of Spock showing strong and demonstrative in emotion when someone he loved in TOS was in danger -- with the Horta and in Amok time. I don't think I'm being unreasonable here. Spock's reactions to the life of someone he loves is pretty consistent. Not everything in the reboots is, mind you, but this aspect is at least.
