Because, whatever the writer previously used to do, the works themselves don't fetishize the characters

whereas moeshit does fetishize the characters sexually

because we, as human beings, are capable of looking at these works and coming to the obvious conclusion that they are completely fucking different in how they regard their characters, because we're not idiots who have to pretend that context and tone and style just somehow don't exist. we can look at things on a level beyond 'has young female characters'. jesus fucking wept

what about the creepy teacher that pervs on the students in Azumanga Daioh what purpose does he even serve other than to be a stand in for the disgusting otaku audience?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-08 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It's supposed to be funny

i'm not saying it is funny, but I'm like 85% sure that's supposed to be humorous, not an audience stand-in or someone seriously fetishizing the characters

Japan is still fucked up, but that's a major difference between that and moeshit still

The one that characters actually react appropriately to with disgust and revulsion (except for the fact he's still got a job). And not in some cliche anime way where the girls punt him out the window and forget about it a sketch later, characters make it a point to avoid him. If he's the audience, he's a commentary.

<img src='http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130801171230/azumanga/images/d/d6/Kimura_13.jpg"/> I won't say he's the greatest character, but even then, he's significantly lower tier then Moeshit on the creeper content.

Thanks I was going to say this.

Yeah, I mean, he's part of the atmosphere of the school -- he's super sketchy and the reactions to him are realistic. Like a lot of things in Azumanga Daioh, it really felt true to my own experiences in high school (even though I went to school in a different country and was not a cartoon character).

". jesus fucking wept"

What is the point in putting this after something? Is this a new trend or something?

It sounds stupid and frankly makes you sound more egotistical and obnoxious.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-08 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it a trend? I had no idea. I just used it as a mark of frustration. Could have said 'fucking Christ' or something like that instead, but chose not to.

Ah.. well I apologize for jumping down your throat about it.

I guess I had a kneejerk annoyance toward that phrase because in a writing community I dealt with an insufferable user who had "Jesus" as a part of his name and couldn't take the fact that people liked things he hated and ranted about how everyone else was hacks and sucked, and couldn't take ANY crit whatsoever about his behavior.

He frequently used "Jesus wept" when he didn't approve of something.

I apologize for my reaction.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-08 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, yeah, that would be the most insufferable thing ever. I don't blame you tbh.

AYRT

He was also a horrible literary fiction snob too.

When my friend in college described dealing with a "genre fiction is trash" sentiment IN HER TEXTBOOKS it disturbed me enough to reconsider majoring in English, because I would have the hardest time getting through a class like that. Auuuuuugh.

Agh I wish I could delete this comment It was probably stupid and unnecessary to go into further detail

Have a nice day anon.

Eh, there's plenty of moe shows that don't sexually fetishize the characters and they still get shit upon. Azumanga Daioh is no different from those.
