Hmm. I went to school with a girl who was paralyzed by the polio vaccine. Never had a polio scare at all. I'm not saying that I shouldn't get the vaccination, I'm just wondering what's more statistically likely -- catching the virus or being harmed by the vaccine?

The the people here talk it's like every shot is a stick of fruit candy that will magically make me resistant to everything and have no side-effects at all. Can anyone just respect that I would like to weigh the risks and gains of each medicine before I shoot up?

Not getting the vaccine not only puts you at risk, it also puts everyone else at risk. There is your damn harm. Even the girl who allegedly took a bad reaction still did her part for group immunity. Now get your damn vaccines and stop being an idiot.

You know, the way you present your argument for is really making me want to go the opposite was just to make you mad. You're not being helpful by dismissing my concerns and calling me an idiot.

Your concerns are insane and have zippo to do with actual science. Your doctor will tell you the same thing.

What is insane about being concerned about a potentially lethal effect on my body from medicine I may not ever need?

As for my doctor, I don't consider them to be Gods. My former GP, for example, was such shit with medications she sent me into unnecessarily withdrawal from a med I seriously needed. The specialist I saw after her was horrified. I'll consider an individual's opinion when I've done my own personal research.

THEN WHY ARE YOU DOING YOUR RESEARCH HEEEEEEERE

First stop on a long tour, my friend.

You're more likely to be killed by bees than vaccines. Are you concerned about going outside and do you weigh the risks every time you leave your house?

Joke's on you, we had a friggin' carpenter beehive right on our property and I got stung three times. I so much as hear a faint buzz, I leave the area. I also stopped visiting the botanical gardens and zoo because of the high amount of bees.

dude, AYRT's sister had SEIZURES from being vaccinated. I'm pretty pro-vax myself but AYRT isn't insane for being concerned and wanting to be informed before they get vaccinated.

Then why are they here rather than, idk, talking to either their sister's doctor or ANYONE ELSE MORE QUALIFIED?

Why are you here yelling at them rather than going to med school or something?

I assumed it was because people like to talk about things. And because people are lazy. Which, yes, is a human failing, but not one worth the level of vitriol it's been met with here.

If you don't want to be called an idiot, don't be one. And if you don't want your concerns dismissed, then don't have such stupid ideas.

Just skip to the 18:20 mark of here, okay. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xv72vc_s3e3-doc-martin-city-slickers_lifestyle

You are not helping.

For someone who's not anti-vaxx, you're using pretty much the same argument as they do. Weighing the risks is a great idea, but you're not actually doing research with credible sources, you're using anecdotal evidence. That's not very useful.

+1. Not surprised that OP is taking that tack, given the upbringing, but still...

The only side effects listed at the Norwegian Health Department for the (current*) polio vaccine is:

- Soreness at the place they stuck the needle. (often)
- Fever (short term) (In some cases)
- Hives. (Almost never)

It is also listed as safe to give to pregnant women, stop scaring people with your anecdotal evidence and bullshit. For 99,9% vaccines are safe and offers no bad side effects.

*Vaccines get safer every year, the vaccines I got as a kid was less safe than the ones I will give to my children, as they are isolating what the strain of virus they are putting in your body, I now realize I don't have the proper vocabulary to explain that in English. Anyway long story short: Vaccines are in general quite safe and they are getting safer every day.

I'm just wondering what's more statistically likely -- catching the virus or being harmed by the vaccine?

And the reason you're asking this of fandommers on the internet, rather than qualified medical practitioners with years of knowledge and experience is... why? Because we're more likely to agree with you and you can disgregard our comments as you see fit?

Can anyone just respect that I would like to weigh the risks and gains of each medicine before I shoot up?

Of course we can. You're not being particularly respectful in return, but of course we can. The point is that you're not 'shooting up' random medicines that no one's ever tried before. You harp on about research and yet here you are, rather than on legitimate sites (YMMV on whether you think the CDC is legitimate, but here, since you could only apparently Google as far as Fandom Secrets http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vac-gen/side-effects.htm http://www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafety/index.html) or discussing this with people who have the information you need at hand.

You say you're 26 but you're acting like you're twelve. That's why people aren't showing you the respect you think you're owed.

Thank you for the links. I'm sure they'll be very helpful to me. As to why I started here first, I've explained lower down on the thread.

You're worried about vaccine safety and you started with a bunch of nerds in a fan community rather than the CDC.

Can you even see how ridiculous that is?
